About this Talk
This presentation is about why certification is important and how to trust the certification. More and more consumers require information on sustainable tourism products and suppliers for their more sustainable travel choices. There are many initiatives by both public and private sectors in the form of training, awarding, or certification programs. There are cases of government-led initiatives such as certification programs of Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Korea, and Vanuatu, NGOs-led initiatives such as TOFTigers' certification and Asian Ecotourism Network's standard, and ASEAN's Green Hotel Awards. It introduces the GSTC's global criteria for industry and destinations and accreditation program that is developed for better transparency and reliability of certification. Lastly, the presentation shares a case of a sustainable small hotel in Taiwan certified by a GSTC-accredited certification body and emphasizes practicing sustainability is for all accommodations' responsibility.
